ArtGenda Biennial
Cph 96
ArtGenda ’96 took place over a three week period in April 1996. Via a series of local artistic committees in the participating cities, each city contributed with a programme to the ArtGenda and local curators were responsible for creating the international programme and exhibitions within 14 disciplines. Some 800 artists took part in the ArtGenda.

The renovated cattle market in the centre of Copenhagen, Øksnehallen, with its wonderful 6,000 m2 exhibition space was opened with ArtGenda and this provided a spectacular setting for the visual arts, design, fashions, photography and media, architecture and exhibitions.

The performing arts programme was held at selected theatres and concert halls in the city and the converted ferry Kronborg which was the centre piece of Copenhagen ‘96, was used for fashion shows, music and social events and information centre. All the artists were present in Copenhagen for a minimum of four days.

Some 29,000 visitors were present at the events of ArtGenda and more than 100 different media covered the event in Copenhagen and the participating cities with more than 270 articles.
